Introduction
My name is Hetty Verweij, I have a studio in Wijchen, and I'm now 69 years old.
I've been sculpting since 2007. I wanted to start much sooner, but my busy job as a municipal manager kept me from getting around to it. It's a shame, and a real shame, because I love it.
Turning a stone around and figuring out which way to go is always a puzzle and a surprise. I'm always thrilled that a piece of stone ultimately emerges into a sculpture I can be proud of. Sometimes I know in advance what I want to create from the stone, but just as often, it develops organically. And I often have to adjust my idea because, for example, a piece of stone breaks off, etc. This makes the process fascinating.
I've attended various workshops, and since 2018, I've been taking sculpting lessons with artist Olga van Cromvoirt in Milsbeek. We've been a sculpting collective there since 2024.
I work with harder stones such as marble, serpentine, Indian red, and alabaster.
I work both figuratively and abstractly. In my figurative work, I often incorporate abstraction.
I often find abstract works more exciting and more likely to capture my attention.
I don't really have any favorite sculptors, but I do admire the work of Barbara Hepworth.
Photos/maps
In addition to sculpting, I also likes to photograph. I have selects photos which are suitable to edsend as (art) cards for various occasions. These cards can of course also be ordered via this site.
